Neurodiversity Decoded

Designed as a dip-in, dip-out resource, this book knows parents need help fast.

Nobody in the middle of a meltdown wants to read seventeen chapters of theory while their child is on the floor, their groceries are melting, and a random stranger named Linda is silently judging them near the frozen peas.

The color-coded navigation, crisis tools, word for word scripts, practical strategies, worksheets, and age-specific strategies make it the handbook every family should have.

WORKING WITH NEURODIVERSE FAMILES THROUGH PARENTABLE

I didn't arrive at this work through a textbook. I arrived through my family battles, my meeting with the school SEN department, through wilderness programmes and therapeutic boarding schools in Wisconsin, Idaho and Utah, and through the very specific exhaustion of loving a child whose brain the world simply wasn't designed for. From a bright-eyed, endlessly curious little boy who noticed every detail and questioned everything, to years of misdiagnoses, residential treatment, and the slow, hard work of finding our way back to each other — is what transformed me from a bewildered parent into a dedicated professional. When he finally graduated college with a degree in computer science and then secured a job working in the Manhattan, and then shortly after got a promotion... It was clear. The goal was never to fix him. It was to understand him.

In 2017, while navigating the residential treatment system for my son, I founded ParentAble, initially as an alternative educational consultancy for children with complex needs. What began as a personal search for solutions that actually fitted the child, has grown into a comprehensive coaching practice spanning the full spectrum of neurodiversity — from giftedness and ADHD to autism, anxiety, OCD, and twice-exceptionality. I work with children and their parents, as one without the other is only half of the whole.

I am a Certified Neurodiversity Coach, accredited by IPHM, CMA, and CPD. My approach follows the Naturalistic Neurodevelopmental model, which I studied under Douglas Maughan, LCMHC — a former Consulting Clinical Director specialising in neurodiverse individuals, whose work is informed by cutting-edge research from Emory University's Center for Translational Social Neuroscience.

I also live with ADHD and pure OCD myself. So when I sit with a family, I am not observing from a distance. I know what it feels like when your brain works differently, and I know what it takes to turn that difference into a genuine strength.

If you are looking for someone who has been in the trenches and come out the other side with both the lived experience and the professional training to help — I would love to talk.

SPREADING THE WORD THROUGH NEURODIVERSITY DECODED

mind-mind-full-or-mindful.jpg

When your child melts down in public, refuses to go to school, or spirals into anxiety at two in the morning, you do not need a theory. You need something that works right now.

That is exactly why I wrote Neurodiversity Decoded: The Complete Handbook to Raising Neurodiverse Children.

I spent years searching for a resource that could do two things at once: give me immediate, practical answers in a crisis, and help me understand the deeper neuroscience behind my child's behaviour when I had the headspace to go further.

That book didn't exist. So I wrote it — and at over 500 pages, it is the guide I desperately wished I'd had when we were in the thick of it.

  • The book covers ADHD, autism, anxiety, OCD, and twice-exceptional children aged 5 to 21 and beyond, and it is designed to work with your life rather than against it.

  • A colour-coded navigation system means you can find what you need in minutes, not hours.

  • Word-for-word scripts give you something to actually say when you don't know what to say.

  • Fillable worksheets at the end of each chapter help you translate understanding into action for your specific child.

  • And it goes into the honest territory that most parenting books won't touch — codependency, family systems, power struggles, and what it really takes to change the dynamic at home.

  • It draws on the same Naturalistic Neurodevelopment approach that underpins my coaching, and carries a preface from my mentor Douglas Maughan, LCMHC, who writes: "Parents have so much power to shape the development of their children when they understand how neurodiverse children are unique and need the grace and space to find their own way."

This is not about fixing your child. It is about understanding how their brain actually works — and discovering that when you meet them there, everything changes.

Neurodiversity Decoded is available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle.
